Death toll from recent flood rises to 831 over two months across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has confirmed that the death toll has reached to 831 during the recent monsoon rains and flood across the country over the past two months.

According to the NDMA comprehensive report detailing the devastating impact of recent monsoon rains and floods across Pakistan, more than 1,121 people have been injured in rain and flood related incidents.

Report revealed that the highest number of fatalities was recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 480 people lost their lives. Punjab reported 191 deaths, followed by Sindh with 58, Gilgit-Baltistan with 41, Azad Kashmir with 29, Balochistan with 24, and Islamabad with 8 fatalities.

In the past two days alone, floods claimed 16 lives and injured 10 more — with 13 deaths reported in Punjab and one each in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Azad Kashmir.

Among the deceased were 219 children, 128 women, and 484 men. In addition, 9,000 homes were damaged, and more than 6,000 livestock perished in floodwaters.

The floods also washed away 238 bridges and damaged over 661 kilometers of roads. Approximately 35,000 people are currently living in relief camps — 26,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6,000 in Punjab, and 3,000 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

NDMA reported that 1,880 rescue operations have been carried out so far. Over 500,000 people were rescued during these operations, including 485,000 in Punjab and 14,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
