QUETTA: The Deputy Commissioner of Quetta Mehrullah Badini has taken oath as a District Returning Officer for the local government election in Quetta.
The provincial election commissioner has said that all the arrangements have been finalized for conducting the transparent, credible and fair local government election.
He stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan is taking comprehensive measures in Balochistan for the upcoming local government elections, including the training of deployed officers, supply of election materials, and other necessary preparations.
He expressed hope that the district administration, police, and relevant departments will extend full cooperation throughout the electoral process, ensuring that the public is provided an opportunity to exercise their right to vote in a free, transparent, and peaceful environment.
It is worth mentioning that the Balochistan High Court had order the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct the local government election in Quetta without any delay.
The Balochistan High Court had turned down the objection about the constituencies according to 2017 and the consensus of 2020.
The court had turned down the objection with the remarks that no such clue is found that suggests that the people have not been given the right of voting.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has asked the candidates and the voters to get their name registered in the electoral lists and sort out all the issues regarding their registration before the voter lists are finalized.
The local government elections are going to be a vital even in Quetta. Such elections play a significant part for the development on the grass-root level.
The elected local body provides the people in their respective union councils with the facilities of electricity, gas, sewage, roads, filtered-water plants, dispensaries, main water line (tube wells) and other important facilities.
The local body election ensure a balanced, organized and a rapid development in the smaller units of each district.
