Dar briefs Russia’s Lavrov on recent tensions in region

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has briefed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the latest security situation in the region during a telephonic conversation.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson, the Foreign Minister briefed Lavrov on recent regional developments while rejecting India’s baseless allegations and provocative rhetoric against Pakistan.

Ishaq Dar condemned India’s unilateral and illegal move to keep the Indus Water Treaty on hold while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace.

According to the statement, Ishaq Dar emphasized that Pakistan will firmly protect its sovereignty and national interests.

The Foreign Minister also briefed him on Pakistan’s offer for an international, transparent and independent investigation.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov expressed concern over the recent tense situation and stressed the importance of diplomacy to resolve issues.

He urged both sides to exercise restraint and avoid escalation.

According to the statement, the two leaders also discussed the positive trend of Pakistan-Russia relations while reiterating their commitment to further deepen cooperation in all areas.
