Customs seizes gold worth Rs 40 million at Quetta Airport

QUETTA: Pakistan Customs has foiled a major smuggling attempt at Quetta Airport, seizing gold jewellery worth over Rs 40 million from passengers arriving from Dubai.

According to a Customs spokesperson, the luggage of family members who arrived from Dubai on Sunday via flight FZ 345 was scanned upon arrival. During the inspection, customs officials discovered commercial quantities of ready-made gold jewellery concealed in their baggage.

In a separate development, leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) have raised serious concerns over the unchecked price hike in Quetta and have accused government price control committees of corruption.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s District Ameer, Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Abdul Rehman Rafique, and Secretary General Haji Ainullah Shams, along with other leaders, expressed alarm over the rising prices of essential food items. They alleged that the government machinery has become disconnected from public issues.
