QUETTA: The body of a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) official was discovered on Sunday, a day after he was reportedly abducted, sparking a protest by aggrieved relatives in Panjgur district.

The official, identified as Khalil Ahmed, was allegedly taken by unknown assailants from the Tasp area on Saturday. His body was later recovered from the remote Chakul area.

The discovery prompted immediate outrage. Khalil Ahmed’s family, joined by local residents, brought his body to the main road outside the District Police Officer’s (DPO) office and staged a solemn protest sit-in. The demonstrators levelled serious allegations against local police, claiming they had immediately reported the abduction but received no effective response, which they implied contributed to the tragic outcome.

The protest caused a significant disruption on the main road until negotiations were held with senior police officials and representatives of the district administration. Following assurances, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

Local police authorities have confirmed that the body has been taken into custody for medico-legal formalities and that a comprehensive investigation into the abduction and murder is now underway. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. The incident has heightened tensions in the region, underscoring the persistent security challenges faced by law enforcement personnel in Balochistan.

Meanwhile the Additional Chief Secretary of Balochistan Hamza Shafqaat stated that during 78,000  operations carried out across the province, more than 700 terrorists linked to Fitna-e-Hindustan have been eliminated.

He was addressing a press conference alongside the Inspector General of CTD Balochistan.

While briefing media representatives, he said that three terrorists were arrested during a targeted operation in Kharan, which was conducted on the basis of sensitive intelligence.

He informed that a total of 707 terrorists have so far been killed, and a key suspect involved in the murder of a Station House Officer (SHO) in Kharan has also been apprehended.

According to him, the arrested suspect confessed that he had been instructed to abduct the SHO Qasim Baloch. During the abduction attempt, the SHO resisted, after which he was martyred.
