KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh has claimed a major success, stating it has foiled a significant terrorist plot in the provincial capital with the killing of a high-profile commander of the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
According to a spokesperson for the CTD, the terrorist was killed during an encounter in the Shah Latif Town area of Karachi. The deceased has been identified as Sohail Baloch, also known by his alias, Garg Baloch.
Officials described the slain militant as a key commander of the BLA, who also held the position of in-charge of the organization’s Bolan Area Fateh Squad. The CTD stated that he was operating his network in Karachi while in close contact with other senior commanders of the group.
Security officials allege that Baloch, who joined the organization in 2022, was involved in numerous terrorist operations over the past few years. He is accused of being responsible for the deaths of more than fifty security personnel and civilians.
The CTD provided further details regarding his alleged involvement in high-profile attacks. According to officials, Baloch was a central figure in the attack on Deputy Commissioner Zakir Baloch in Panjgur on March 12. Furthermore, he is accused of being the handler who dispatched the suicide bombers for the devastating attack on the Jaffar Express train on March 11.
The CTD spokesperson confirmed that in addition to Sohail Baloch, several of his accomplices were also killed in the encounter in Shah Latif Town.
Officials assert that with this operation, a major terrorist plot planned for Karachi has been successfully averted. A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend other members of the terrorist network operating in the city.
