QUETTA: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Balochistan Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against those involved in the recent car suicide attack outside the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Quetta and has launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
In this regard, the CTD investigators have identified two terrorists who were killed by security forces while attempting to enter the FC compound.
One of the assailants was identified as Sharifullah, a resident of the Mazai Adha area in Qila Abdullah district, which borders Afghanistan. The second terrorist hailed from Chagai district, though his identity has not yet been confirmed.
Furthermore, the CTD officials, along with other investigative teams, have questioned members of Sharifullah’s family to gather further information about his activities and connections. “The terrorist from Mazai Adha was also wanted by security forces in Karachi for his alleged involvement in a previous terrorist attack,” an official source said.
In this sense, investigators have also contacted the family of the unidentified suspect from Chagai as part of the ongoing probe.
As per the security personnel, both militants were identified with the assistance of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) through fingerprint verification.
Meanwhile, the remains of other militants killed in the exchange of fire with security forces have been sent to the Punjab Forensic Laboratory in Lahore for detailed analysis to aid the investigation.
However, in the aftermath of the attack, the security forces have sealed off the area surrounding the FC headquarters as part of precautionary measures and to preserve evidence.
The structures damaged were the offices of Daily Mashriq newspaper and the private TV channel HUM, both of which have been sealed by the authorities pending safety clearance.
