Peshawar High Court bans KP Govt from using state machinery for protests

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has issued a major order barring the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government from using public resources for personal or political activities.

In its ruling, the court banned the use of official vehicles for any political long march. It said deploying Rescue 1122 machinery or fire brigade trucks for political rallies amounted to “clear misconduct.”

The court said using public resources for political purposes undermines public trust. It stressed that under Articles 4, 5 and 25 of the Constitution, state resources are not the property of any political party.

The bench directed the provincial government not to assign official machinery or staff for any long march. It said government vehicles and equipment exist to serve citizens, not to support political shows.

The court ruled that placing government officials on duty for political events constitutes corruption and abuse of authority.

It ordered the provincial administration and its officers to strictly stop the misuse of public resources. The ruling added that political use of state assets damages the neutrality of governance.
