Corruption scandal unveiled in Balochistan University

QUETTA: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Balochistan Assembly held a meeting chaired by Provincial Finance Minister Asghar Tareen. According to sources, the session reviewed various administrative and financial matters related to the Balochistan University. During the meeting, the committee revealed alarming financial and administrative irregularities within the institution.

The PAC disclosed that several lecturers were granted foreign scholarships for higher education; however, many of them failed to return after completing their studies abroad.

The committee further noted that no legal or disciplinary action had been taken against these individuals, resulting in a loss of approximately sixty million rupees to the national exchequer.

Even more concerning, the committee uncovered that three of the individuals who received scholarships and travelled abroad were not employees of the university at all.

The PAC stated that these three individuals absconded after reaching foreign countries, adding to the scale of the mismanagement and financial misconduct within the institution.

Corruption in various government departments across Balochistan has long hindered progress, weakened institutions, and undermined public trust.

Widespread irregularities in hiring, development projects, and resource allocation have created an environment where merit often takes a backseat to favouritism and personal connections.

This culture of corruption has deeply affected the efficiency of administrative systems and deprived deserving individuals of fair opportunities in employment and education.

The misuse of public funds meant for health, education, and infrastructure has further widened the gap between government promises and people’s welfare.

Many essential projects remain incomplete or poorly executed due to embezzlement and lack of accountability.

As a result, the province continues to struggle with unemployment, poor governance, and deteriorating public services.

Experts believe that eliminating corruption and enforcing transparency are crucial for ensuring merit-based governance and genuine socio-economic betterment in Balochistan.
