Pakistan Coast Guards, Navy seize $110 million drugs in Gwadar

GWADAR: In one of the largest anti-narcotics operations in the region this year, the Pakistan Coast Guards, in a joint intelligence-based operation with the Pakistan Navy, have seized a massive cache of drugs in Balochistan’s Gwadar district. The contraband, including over a ton of hashish and a significant quantity of methamphetamine, was hidden in the mountainous terrain of the Jiwani area.

According to a spokesperson for the Pakistan Coast Guards, the operation resulted in the recovery of 1,050 kilograms of hashish and 200 kilograms of methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice.” The drugs were expertly concealed, apparently in preparation for being smuggled out of the country.

The estimated global value of the seized narcotics is approximately $110 million. Officials stated that the drugs were intended to be trafficked to foreign countries via sea routes.

“The Pakistan Coast Guard is committed to preventing drug smuggling and eliminating the networks involved,” the spokesperson stated.

Highlighting the grave threat posed by such illicit networks, the spokesperson emphasized the direct link between drug trafficking and terrorism. “Drug smuggling networks provide terrorists with income in an organized manner,” he said, adding that the elimination of these networks “has become inevitable” for national security. The operation underscores the continued efforts of Pakistani law enforcement and maritime agencies to disrupt both narcotics trafficking and the financial pipelines that fuel terrorist activities.
