COAS Asim Munir chairs conference on rising regional threats

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), presided over a Special Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at the General Headquarters (GHQ) today.

The high-level forum undertook a comprehensive assessment of the current geo-strategic environment, with a specific focus on the rising Pakistan-India tensions and the broader regional security landscape.

The forum reiterated the Pakistan Armed Forces’ unwavering resolve to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against any form of external aggression or hostile act.

The COAS commended the professionalism, high morale, and operational readiness of the armed forces, stressing the vital need for heightened vigilance and proactive preparedness across all domains.

The commanders voiced deep concern over the ongoing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), particularly in the wake of the recent Pahalgam incident.

The forum also condemned the continued targeting of civilians along the Line of Control (LoC) by Indian occupation forces, describing these actions as provocative, unprovoked, and detrimental to regional peace. It was clearly stated that such actions would receive a firm and proportionate response.

The leadership noted with serious concern India’s continued exploitation of crises for political and strategic gain.

The forum highlighted a recurring pattern, where India externalizes internal governance failures to justify unilateral actions — referencing the Pulwama incident in 2019 and the subsequent revocation of Article 370 as a precedent.

In this context, the Pahalgam episode is seen as yet another orchestrated move to create a diversion.

It was assessed that the current Indian posture aims to shift Pakistan’s focus away from critical national objectives — notably its western front security challenges and ongoing efforts to revive the economy — both of which are seeing steady progress.

These diversionary tactics, the forum asserted, are designed to buy time for Indian-backed terror proxies and will not succeed.

Serious alarm was also raised over India’s attempts to weaponize water by exploiting the Pahalgam incident to undermine the Indus Waters Treaty.

The commanders underscored that tampering with Pakistan’s legitimate water rights threatens the livelihoods of over 240 million people and constitutes a destabilizing act with grave strategic implications for South Asia.

The forum further expressed deep concern over credible evidence pointing to direct Indian military and intelligence involvement in sponsoring terrorism within Pakistan.

Such state-sponsored actions, the forum emphasized, are flagrant violations of international law and norms, and are completely unacceptable.

While reaffirming Pakistan’s firm commitment to peace, stability, and economic progress, the forum made it unequivocally clear that any attempt to impose war will be met with a resolute and decisive response. The aspirations of the Pakistani people, it stated, will be defended at all costs.

The session concluded with General Asim Munir expressing full confidence in the operational capability, deterrence posture, and morale of the Pakistan Armed Forces, reaffirming their readiness to defend the nation against all threats, across the full spectrum of conflict.
