MAKRAN: At least nine people were killed and 36 others injured when a passenger coach overturned on the Makran Coastal Highway near Gwadar in Balochistan, police said Saturday.
The accident occurred near Hudd Goth in Ormara. The Karachi-bound coach, travelling to Jiwani, lost control and overturned, police said. Overspeeding was reported as the likely cause. The vehicle belonged to private transport company Al Usman.
Rescue teams reached the scene quickly. The bodies and injured passengers were shifted to Ormara Tehsil Hospital. Hospital officials said several injured were in critical condition.
Police said investigations were ongoing. Details about the driver and the transport company were being collected.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed grief over the loss of lives. He extended condolences to the families. He directed the Gwadar deputy commissioner to ensure immediate medical care for the injured and ordered ambulances to transport the bodies to victims’ native areas.
The chief minister also requested a detailed report and ordered an inquiry into the causes of the accident. He said the provincial government stood with the affected families.

The Makran Coastal Highway has seen multiple serious accidents in the past. Experts cite overspeeding, long-distance travel, poor road conditions in some areas, and inadequate vehicle maintenance as contributing factors.
