CM Punjab Announces Free Public Transport in All Cities

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced free public transport across all cities of the province to ease the burden of rising fuel prices.

Under the initiative, commuters will not pay fares on the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Bus services.

The move aims to provide relief as rising prices of petrol, gas, and electricity strain household budgets nationwide.

The government will also subsidize fuel for motorcycle owners. Registered users will receive Rs100 on every 20 liters of petrol, offering direct financial support to millions who rely on two-wheelers.

Residents across Punjab welcomed the decision. Many described it as a major relief that will cut daily travel costs and encourage the use of public transport.

Maryam Nawaz called the package a “people-first initiative.” She said the government remains committed to public welfare despite economic challenges.

Analysts say Punjab is the first province to roll out such a broad transport relief plan amid ongoing austerity measures.
