PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi chaired a meeting of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Peshawar, where plans were approved to recruit 638 field operators for cyber patrolling, intelligence gathering, and field operations.
The meeting also sanctioned the establishment of a new regional CTD headquarters in Peshawar and revived the development project for constructing CTD offices across 21 districts of the province.
A total of Rs. 4.3 billion has been allocated for district-level expansion, while Rs. 7.77 billion has been designated for vehicles, weapons, and modern equipment.
During the meeting, the chief minister was briefed in detail on CTD’s performance.
Approval was granted to convert 186 detectives into 638 permanent field operators.
Officials informed that the new field operators will handle cyber monitoring, intelligence work, surveillance, and operational duties.
The chief minister also gave initial approval for the new CTD regional headquarters in Peshawar and ordered the revival of the stalled project to construct CTD offices in 21 districts. Additionally, Rs. 7.77 billion was approved for upgrading CTD’s fleet, arms, and advanced tools.
CM Sohail Afridi emphasized that all CTD reforms, infrastructure projects, and recruitments must be completed within set timelines, ensuring safety protocols across all construction activities.
He stated that the provincial government is fully committed to maintaining peace and will not allow resource shortages to hinder security efforts.
It is worth mentioning that the Indian-sponsored militants of Fitna al Khawarij have launched several militant-attacks in KP and Balochistan in the past many years.
All such terror groups are funded, trained and backed by India and have their havens and hideouts in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has stressed on Afghanistan to ensure that the militant groups do not use the Afghan soil to launch attacks on the Pakistani territory.
However, no serious measures have been taken by the Afghan government against the Indian-sponsored militants so far.
