QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has unveiled a multi-million rupee development package for Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University while issuing a stern warning against what he termed “anti-state propaganda” targeting the youth.

Speaking at an Iqbal Day ceremony at the university, the Chief Minister announced a significant grant to transform the institution. The package includes a Rs. 10 million grant for new library books, the complete solarization of the campus, and the construction of a state-of-the-art auditorium. He also promised 10 new buses, 400 laptops for students and faculty, 10 electric campus vehicles, and an expanded “Pink Scooty Scheme” offering scooters to female students at a subsidized rate.

Beyond the infrastructural boost, Bugti’s address focused heavily on security and ideological challenges. He assured female students of the government’s full support against harassment, urging them to report any incidents for strict legal action. However, he also cautioned them against malign influences, stating that anti-state elements are actively exploiting social media to radicalize students.

In a stark revelation, Bugti cited the case of a second-year student who was allegedly influenced via a social media app to participate in the murder of a former chief justice. “Those who exploit students for terrorism are enemies of Balochistan’s future,” he declared, urging students not to waste their lives.

Justifying limited internet restrictions in volatile areas, the CM asserted that saving lives takes precedence over internet access, though cable internet would be provided to educational institutions to prevent academic disruption. He concluded by calling on students to devote themselves to their studies, love their country, and embody the philosophy of Allama Iqbal to become resilient, responsible citizens.

Meanwhile the Balochistan government has imposed a sweeping and indefinite suspension of all inter-city transport on a critical section of National Highway N-70, citing pressing security threats. The order, which came into immediate effect, halts all taxi services and private vehicle movement on the Loralai route until further notice, effectively severing a major transportation artery in the province.
