QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has expressed grave concern over a major fire raging in the mountain forests of Sherani district and has declared an all-out emergency response to combat the blaze.

In urgent directives issued to provincial authorities, CM Bugti emphasized that “forests are a national asset,” affirming his government’s commitment to taking every possible step to protect these vital natural resources from destruction. The fire poses a significant threat to the region’s biodiversity, local ecology, and the livelihoods of communities dependent on the forest.

To mount an immediate and effective counter-operation, the Chief Minister has mobilized a multi-departmental emergency response. He has issued explicit instructions to the district administration, Levies, police force, Forest Department, and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to immediately pool all available resources. This includes deploying machinery, rescue personnel, and any necessary assistance to the affected area without delay.

The core directive is to contain the wildfire at its initial stage, preventing its spread to minimize environmental and economic damage. CM Bugti stressed the critical need for swift and coordinated action to carry out effective firefighting operations in the challenging mountainous terrain.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed the PDMA Balochistan to maintain continuous close contact with the district administration on the ground. He mandated the authority to provide all required logistical and technical support seamlessly to ensure the rescue and firefighting mission is fruitful. This coordinated push underscores the provincial government’s alarm over the incident and its determination to safeguard Balochistan’s precious forest cover.

The situation remains critical as teams work to gain control over the fire. The provincial government’s response aims to mitigate what could otherwise become an ecological disaster for Sherani district.

Meanwhile in  a comprehensive bid to tackle the province’s educational deficit, the Balochistan government has launched a multi-faceted development programme targeting infrastructure, technology, and student welfare. Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, presiding over a review meeting on education projects, stated that providing quality education is now the provincial government’s “top priority.”
