CM Bugti Meets PM Shehbaz Ahead of Senate Vote on 27th Amendment

CM Bugti meets PM Shehbaz ahead of Senate vote on 27th Amendment

ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister of Balochistan Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti has called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif here on Monday.

As per details, they were discussed matters related to Balochistan province during the meeting held at the Prime Minister House.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Advisor to Prime Minister on political affairs Rana Sanaullah.

It is pertinent to mention here that Rana Sana Ullah and Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had visited Balochistan last night to seek support of the National Party in the favour of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Their meeting with the National Party Chief and former chief minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik was also attended by the Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti.

While the NP holds a single vote in both the National Assembly and the Senate, its support is considered potentially decisive in what is expected to be a tightly contested legislative process. The party’s vote could play an instrumental role in either the approval or the failure of the government’s constitutional initiative.

However, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch refused to support the government in the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Voting on the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the upper house of the Parliament will be held today. In the 100-member Senate, the coalition government has 61 senators. The government need 64 members, the two-thirds majority needed for passage.

The ruling party Pakistan Muslim League PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui would not participate in the voting as he was hospitalised last night due to the worsened situation.
