QUETTA: The Balochistan government has taken a step for the welfare of media professionals by formally launching the province’s first Journalist Housing Scheme.
In this regard, the government officials described the initiative as a vital effort to provide secure, dignified and permanent housing for working journalists and the families of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Chief Minister of Balochistan acknowledged the difficult and often hazardous conditions under which journalists in the province continue to work.
He said the government recognizes their financial challenges and has therefore approved free residential flats for the families of martyred journalists as well as low-income media workers.
The construction of the flats will be completed within one year, and allotments will be made through a merit-based ballot to ensure transparency and fairness.
Furthermore, at the ceremony, the government representatives focused on that journalism remains a pillar of society, and that strengthening responsible, impartial and ethical reporting is essential for democratic progress.
In this regard, the government committed to covering all educational expenses for the children of martyred journalists, regardless of the institution they choose to attend whether Lawrence College, Aitchison College, Oxford, Harvard or any other recognized institute in Pakistan or abroad.
Meanwhile, the government further stressed that no compromise would be made on the quality of the project.
The Secretary for Communication and Works has been directed to begin implementation immediately, with clear instructions to maintain transparency at every stage of development.
On the contrary, the CM Bugti met with the Chairman of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to discuss the country’s political scenario.
The launch of the Journalist Housing Scheme indicates an important achievement for media workers in Balochistan, indicating the province’s recognition of journalists as vital guardians of truth and accountability.
