QUETTA: In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering women, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday inaugurated the province’s first-ever Pink Bus Service in the provincial capital, terming it a revolutionary step toward providing dignified, safe, and high-quality travel for women.
Speaking at a ceremony that also marked the expansion of the existing Green Bus Service, the Chief Minister called the launch a moment of pride, building on the earlier Pink Scooties programme. He stated that women’s empowerment is the foundation of social progress, highlighting the exemplary performance of women Deputy Commissioners across Balochistan as proof of their administrative capabilities.
“The launch of the Pink Bus Service, along with scholarships and other programmes, are practical parts of our efforts to create new opportunities for women in every field,” Bugti said.
The CM also delivered a strong message to extremist elements, condemning those who mislead Baloch women. “These measures are a clear message to those forcing Baloch women towards destruction instead of education. We are committed to opening the doors of the world’s best universities for our daughters,” he asserted, adding that the state would prevail to ensure a future of development and peace for Balochistan.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to modern transport, Bugti announced the expansion of the Green Bus Service to Pishin, Mastung, and Turbat. He also revealed steady progress on the Quetta-Sariab Peoples Train Project to ease urban congestion and shared plans to introduce electric buses in the province to tackle pollution.
The ceremony was attended by provincial ministers, assembly members, PPP leaders, media, and civil society representatives.
