QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has issued a stern warning over high airfares from Quetta to other parts of Pakistan.
Addressing at the provincial assembly floor on Monday, the Chief Minister said the government will defend its citizens’ rights in a firm but coordinated manner.
Bugti criticised the fact that airfare from Quetta to Karachi is equal to flights to Dubai, calling it unfair to passengers.
He said he had written to the Prime Minister and Aviation Minister on the issue but received no response. A meeting with parliamentary leaders and federal officials is planned soon.
The Chief Minister warned that if fares are not reduced, the government may arrest airline managers under Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
Bugti cited public anger over excessive fares, warning that passengers might even resort to protesting at the airport.
