Islamabad: Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti has stated that not only has meritocracy been firmly established in Balochistan, but funds allocated for development projects have also begun to be utilized effectively.
Speaking on a private television channel program, Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that Transparency International, in its report, has acknowledged the significant steps taken by the provincial government to eliminate corruption and promote merit-based governance.
He further added that in the past, only 30 to 40 percent of the funds earmarked for construction and development in Balochistan were actually spent on projects. He described the current administration as the first government in the province’s history to utilize 100 percent of the allocated development funds on intended schemes.
The Chief Minister highlighted that for the current financial year, the federal government had allocated a total of one thousand billion rupees for development projects nationwide. For the first time, 25 percent of this amount, equivalent to 250 billion rupees has been earmarked specifically for Balochistan.
While he refrained from claiming that corruption has been completely eradicated, he pointed out that international organizations are themselves acknowledging a substantial reduction in corrupt practices.
He also claimed that recent surveys show people in the province have rejected the tribal system when it comes to casting votes.
He asserted that all allegations of non-transparent or biased elections in Balochistan are baseless and false.
