BEIJING: China has welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, calling it a positive step toward regional stability.
Chinese officials also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in bringing both sides to the negotiating table.
Mao Ning said Beijing welcomes the announcement by relevant parties on the ceasefire arrangement.
Speaking during a routine press briefing, she emphasised that China advocates resolving conflicts through political dialogue to ensure long-term peace in the Gulf and Middle East.
Mao Ning specifically praised Pakistan’s mediation efforts. She said China supports initiatives by countries such as Pakistan that aim to de-escalate tensions and promote peace.
The spokesperson added that China itself had worked to help halt fighting between the US and Iran. Beijing remains committed to a constructive role in promoting stability and peace in the region through diplomatic means.
China reiterated its call for a lasting resolution to the conflict. Dialogue was stressed as a priority over confrontation.
According to Mao Ning, achieving long-term stability in the Gulf and Middle East remains a key objective. Ceasefire agreements were described as an important step toward that goal.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump suggested that China may have encouraged Iran to enter negotiations.
“I hear yes,” he said when asked by AFP whether Beijing had urged Tehran to agree to a truce.
