China releases $2 million for technical cooperation projects

China releases 2 million US dollars for an economic and technical cooperation projects in Punjab province.

According to the official news agency, citing a report from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the project aims to strengthen Pakistan’s technical infrastructure, promote institutional linkages, and enhance ongoing development cooperation between the two countries.

This latest disbursement reflects Beijing’s continued financial commitment to provincial development and institutional capacity building in Pakistan.

The move also highlights China’s broader development strategy, which extends beyond major infrastructure projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), focusing instead on bilateral cooperation within a diversified development framework.

In September 2025 alone, China’s total disbursements reached approximately 2 million dollars, while during the first quarter of the 2025–26 fiscal year (July to September), overall Chinese assistance — including both grants and loans — amounted to 9.75 million dollars. In addition to the Punjab project, China has continued to provide financial support for key reconstruction and rehabilitation initiatives across various regions of Pakistan.

These include 4.47 million dollars for rebuilding schools destroyed in Bara District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; 6 million dollars for housing projects in Balochistan; and 1.08 million dollars for establishing Pakistan’s new Geodetic Datum.

China is also a partner in several nationally significant ventures, such as the relocation of the Karakoram Highway (Thakot–Raikot section), the establishment of the Pakistan Space Centre (SUPARCO), and the creation of the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre for Earth Sciences at Quaid-i-Azam University.

All these projects form part of a comprehensive development partnership aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s infrastructure and scientific capabilities.

Moreover, China’s support goes beyond project-based aid — it continues to contribute to Pakistan’s financial stability by maintaining a $4 billion “SAFE China Deposit”, a crucial component of Pakistan’s foreign reserves that helps stabilize the economy and support the balance of payments.

Experts view China’s ongoing financial assistance as a sign of enduring cooperation, economic stability, and the strengthening of long-term bilateral relations between Islamabad and Beijing.
