BEIJING: China has rejected media reports alleging it supplied chipmaking equipment to Iran, calling the claims “false information.”
China’s Foreign Ministry on Friday strongly denied the reports, which said a major Chinese semiconductor firm was providing equipment to Iran.
The reports, citing two unnamed senior U.S. officials, claimed that SMIC had begun shipping chipmaking tools to Iran about a year ago. One U.S. official said there was no indication the activity had stopped.
Responding to the allegations, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said he was not aware of the specific case. However, he said some media outlets have recently published reports that appear credible but are in fact inaccurate.
China remains a key partner of Iran but has not announced any military support since the conflict escalated following U.S. and Israeli strikes earlier this year. Beijing has repeatedly called for a ceasefire and urged de-escalation.
The company named in the reports, SMIC, did not respond to requests for comment

China said it does not take unverified media reports seriously and described the allegations as misleading, while reaffirming its stance in favor of peace and stability in the region.
