ISLAMABAD: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi assured Pakistan of China’s continued support for its counter-terrorism efforts. His assurance came during a call with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Mr Wang expressed China’s solidarity and support with Pakistan. He stressed that fighting terrorism is a shared responsibility of the international community.
Ishaq Dar briefed him on the situation after the deadly attack in Pahalgam in the Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that left 27 tourists dead. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm opposition to terrorism in all forms. He also pledged that Pakistan would work to prevent any escalation in the region.
After the attack, Indian media blamed Pakistan without evidence. Islamabad strongly denied the accusations. Pakistan demanded a transparent investigation and offered full cooperation. It also condemned India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a provocative move. In response, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian aircraft.
Wang said disputes between Pakistan and India hurt both nations. He warned that hostilities could damage regional peace and stability. He urged both sides to exercise restraint, hold dialogue, and find peaceful solutions through diplomacy.
“Supporting Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts is part of China’s broader commitment to regional peace,” Mr. Wang said. He also backed Pakistan’s “reasonable security concerns” and pledged to support its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ishaq Dar welcomed China’s support. He assured that Pakistan would handle the situation responsibly. He said Pakistan would maintain close contact with Beijing and the international community.
This exchange comes at a critical time. The threat of escalation looms large over South Asia. Leaders stress the urgent need for restraint and constructive engagement to preserve stability.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif rejected India’s allegations over the Pahalgam attack. He called the accusations a “fabricated drama” aimed at boosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political standing.
The defence minister said many voices within India question Modi’s intentions. He suggested the incident was staged for political gain. He urged the formation of an international commission, preferably under the United Nations or regional powers, to investigate independently.
