China condemns Islamabad suicide bombing, confirms support for Pak

China strongly condemned the deadly suicide bombing that struck an imambargah in Islamabad earlier this week, expressing deep shock over the loss of life and confirming its firm support for Pakistan’s efforts to maintain national security and stability.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was “deeply shocked” by the explosion that caused heavy casualties in Islamabad. The statement conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and sympathy for those injured in the attack.

“China strongly condemns the attack, opposes any form of terrorism, and firmly supports the Pakistani government in safeguarding national security and stability and protecting the safety of the people,” the statement said.

The suicide bombing occurred at Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra in the Tarlai area, a semi-rural locality on the outskirts of Islamabad along Lehtrar Road.

The blast took place shortly after Friday prayers, when worshippers were gathered inside the mosque. The attacker was intercepted at the main gate of the imambargah before detonating his explosive device.

The powerful blast killed more than 30 people and left over 100 others injured, making it one of the deadliest attacks in the capital in recent years. The scene showed bodies lying near the mosque’s entrance, while debris and damaged prayer mats were scattered across the red-carpeted prayer hall.

The attack created nationwide grief and condemnation, with political leaders, religious groups, and members of civil society denouncing the violence. The several countries also issued statements of condemnation, underscoring growing international concern over the incident.

The authorities have pointed towards possible external involvement, while security agencies intensify their efforts to trace the network behind the attack. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that four key facilitators, including the alleged mastermind, were arrested during overnight raids in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
