First Cement Factory for Makran Proposed in Gwadar Investment Talks

QUETTA: In a significant development for the Gwadar Port project, a high-level delegation from the Chinese firm Shandong Xinxu International Corporation Ltd met with Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch at the GPA office in Islamabad to discuss substantial new investments.

Led by Operational Manager Umair Arshad, the delegation explored a range of commercial opportunities, focusing on the North Free Zone. The discussions centered on developing industrial infrastructure, enhancing logistics facilities, and establishing a modern export-based processing unit. Specific projects under consideration include the construction of cold storage facilities and industrial sheds, initiatives poised to generate significant local employment and boost cargo traffic at the port.

The Chinese group has already taken concrete steps, having recently visited Gwadar Port to conduct preliminary feasibility reviews. A landmark proposal discussed was the establishment of the first-ever cement factory in the Makran region, a project that would significantly impact local industrial development.

Chairman Baloch briefed the delegates on the incentives and infrastructure available in the Free Zone Phase II, emphasizing Gwadar’s emerging role as a key regional hub for trade and connectivity. He assured the Chinese company of the GPA’s full support, pledging to prioritize and facilitate their investment processes. This meeting marks a continued interest from major Chinese companies.

Meanwhile the inaugural Inter-Educational Institute Sports Festival 2025 kicked off with great enthusiasm at the Mir Abdul Ghafoor Kalmati Cricket Stadium, marking a significant initiative to promote sports and youth engagement in the region.
