ISLAMABAD: The Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and the British Council have announced the cancellation of all Cambridge O Level, IGCSE, and International AS & A Level exams scheduled for today (Friday) in selected regions of Pakistan, citing security concerns.
The decision affects students in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur cities of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), as well as in Islamabad and across the Punjab province.
The specified areas where exams have been called off, CIE confirmed that examinations scheduled to be held in other parts of the country on Friday, May 9, will proceed as planned, provided that the security situation remains stable.
Furthermore, the Cambridge further assured that it has well-established procedures in place to ensure students are not academically disadvantaged by the cancellations.
The announcement has impacted a crucial number of students, many of whom were preparing to appear for their international examinations under the Cambridge system this week.
Furthermore, both Cambridge International and the British Council have urged students, parents, and educational institutions to rely solely on their official channels for updates.
The move comes as part of broader precautionary measures being adopted in response to the evolving security environment in some regions of the country.
In this regard, educational institutions and exam centres in the affected areas have been informed of the cancellations, and further guidance on rescheduling or alternate grading methods is expected to be shared in the coming days.
