QUETTA: Balochistan is witnessing an important shift as the federal government unveils a Rs250 billion development package for the province, indicating a move from years of unfulfilled promises to tangible progress.
The 2025-26 budget, unanimously passed by the Balochistan Assembly, allocates unprecedented resources to transform infrastructure, agriculture, education, and public services.
Furthermore, the new budget is the focus on water and agriculture. The Kachhi Canal project is set to ignite an agricultural revolution, while the Mirani and Sabakzai dams promise sustainable water solutions for communities long plagued by scarcity.
In this sense, Rs42.78 billion allocated for irrigation, the province aims to boost agricultural productivity and secure water resources for generations to come.
Moreover, Infrastructure development is at the heart of the plan. The expansion of Gwadar Port will position Balochistan as a key player in global trade, while major highway projects and water supply schemes are designed to directly improve public convenience and connectivity.
The Communication and Works Department’s budget has been increased by 19 percent, with Rs55.19 billion allocated for new roads and the upgrading of existing infrastructure.

In this regard, Education and healthcare have also received significant attention. The government has allocated Rs24.84 billion to upgrade educational infrastructure, recruit teachers, and introduce modern facilities in secondary and higher education.
In the health sector, Rs16.15 billion will be spent on upgrading hospitals, hiring new staff, and acquiring modern equipment to enhance healthcare delivery.

Balochistan’s leadership has focused that this budget marks a new era for the province, with 100 percent of the current fiscal year’s development funds fully utilized and immediate work set to begin on next year’s projects.
