Books of Rs. 6 million worth sold in Kech cultural festival

Turbat: The Kech Cultural Festival concluded with great vibrancy and enthusiasm, setting a new record for book sales in Balochistan.

More than Rs. 6 million worth of books were sold during the three-day event, breaking all previous records.

The festival, held at the Kech Cultural Center, came to an end with a poetry recital (mushaira) and a musical evening, attracting massive participation from the public.

Thousands of men, women, and students attended daily, showcasing their growing interest in literature and culture.

According to Kech Deputy Commissioner and festival chairman Bashir Ahmed Badich, book sales had already crossed Rs. 5.4 million by the afternoon of the third day—almost double the Rs. 3.5 million sales recorded at the Atta Shad Literary Festival two years ago.

By the festival’s conclusion, sales exceeded Rs. 6 million. Participation also reached record levels, with around 18,000 people attending on the first day, 22,000 on the second, and over 30,000 on the final day.

DC Kech described the overwhelming response as a clear reflection of the people’s deep love for books and noted that the festival had inspired fresh energy and hope among the youth of Balochistan.

It is worth noting that the rising trend of book reading and literary enthusiasm in Balochistan is a highly encouraging development.

This cultural shift not only helps in reducing educational backwardness but also enables the youth to pursue modern knowledge in line with the rest of the country.

More importantly, the passion for reading encourages young men and women to engage in constructive, creative, and progressive activities.

For lasting impact, the federal government, the Government of Balochistan, and relevant institutions must ensure greater accessibility to quality educational and literary resources across the province.
