Blast at Peshawar CTD police station caused by short circuit, confirms CCPO

PESHAWAR: The powerful explosion occurred inside the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station located at Tehkal Mor on University Road.

The blast took place in the station’s malkhana (storehouse), where old ammunition and explosives were kept.

In this regard, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar, Dr. Mian Saeed, stated that the incident was caused by a short circuit, which led to the detonation of old explosive material stored inside the premises.

He confirmed that one police official was martyred and several others sustained injuries in the incident.

“All aspects of the incident are being thoroughly investigated,” the CCPO said in a statement.

“Rescue and security teams are on site, and the area has been completely sealed.”

He further urged citizens to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information or rumors regarding the blast.

In this sense, Police and rescue officials said that following the initial explosion, a fire broke out inside the building, triggering secondary explosions as stored ammunition caught fire.

The blast was heard across several nearby areas, causing panic among residents and passersby.

Furthermore, the emergency response teams, including Rescue 1122 and bomb disposal units, reached the scene immediately after the incident.

Yesterday, Peshawar police has neutralized four-active robbers in police uniform. They were targeting civilians for unfair means.

The blast serves as a reminder of the risks associated with handling and storing outdated explosive materials.
