Fact check exposes BLA’s fake video of army destroying solar panels

ndian-Afghan Digital Nexus: Fact-Check Exposes Trail of Fake "Army vs Farmer" Video

QUETTA: A viral video shared by proscribed militant groups to malign Pakistan’s security institutions has been exposed as a fabricated and misleading piece of propaganda by the Buraq Baloch fact-checking cell.

The video, circulated by propaganda cells of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Fitrna Al-Khawarij, carried a false caption alleging, “Pakistany Army is destroying the solar panels of a poor Baloch farmer because they rejected to accept them in their village.” Investigations reveal the claim is entirely baseless and part of a coordinated disinformation campaign.

The fact-check found the video has no clear timeline or specific location mentioned, a common tactic in fake news. Further analysis uncovered that the same footage was previously posted by an Afghan propaganda account claiming it depicted an event in Waziristan. It has now been repurposed with a new false narrative about Balochistan.

According to the investigation, the truth is the exact opposite of the militant groups’ claim. The video actually shows Pakistan Army personnel dismantling and removing temporary structures at one of their own frontline posts. This is a standard procedure when a security unit is relocating after the successful completion of an anti-militant operation in an area.

The Buraq Baloch cell reported that banned organizations, often with suspected backing from Indian cyber cells, are increasingly using AI-generated videos or misrepresenting old footage. The objective is to create distrust between the public and state institutions by spreading false narratives of oppression. Security analysts urge citizens to verify such content through credible sources and not fall for malicious propaganda designed to destabilize the region.
