QUETTA: Political analyst Abdullah Khan raised serious concerns about the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), labelling it a definite proxy tool used by hostile elements in a broader information warfare campaign against Pakistan.
Speaking at Burak Digital, Abdullah highlighted that the BLA is promoting a narrative of so-called “freedom” and “exploitation of Balochistan”, which, when linked to the larger picture, aligns with efforts to undermine Pakistan’s sovereignty and stability. “This is not just about India,” he emphasised. “Several other countries — some of them our so-called friends and neighbours, both near and far — have a vested interest in preventing the success of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).”
According to Abdullah, the core objective of these forces is to create chaos in Balochistan so that China withdraws from its development commitments in the region. “Their ultimate goal is to halt Balochistan’s progress because they view its development as a challenge to their own strategic and economic interests,” he said.
He explained that a prosperous Balochistan, especially with a functional Gwadar Port, could dramatically shift regional trade dynamics. “Gwadar is a naturally deep-sea port, a rare strategic asset. If it becomes fully operational, it could threaten the commercial interests of several countries whose ports would lose relevance,” Abdullah warned.
He further noted that some nations see Balochistan’s barren lands and rugged mountains today, but fear they could become tomorrow’s centre of global attention and investment. “They don’t want Balochistan to flourish, because they know that once development starts, the region’s immense potential will be realised — and that threatens their geopolitical dominance.”
Touching upon China’s global position, Abdullah also pointed out efforts by Western powers to contain China — not just in the South China Sea, but now also via strategic disruption in Balochistan. “They are trying to create a second front to limit China’s rise,” he concluded, adding that Gwadar’s success is being perceived as a potential threat by those seeking to maintain the status quo.
