ISLAMABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced severe backlash on social media after sharing a video intended to highlight India’s development, which was actually footage of a highway in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
The BJP’s official social media account posted a video of a scenic highway with the caption, “This is the new India, which does not just dream, but turns dreams into reality.
” However, social media users quickly pointed out that the road was located in Gilgit-Baltistan rather than India.
It was later revealed that the footage belonged to a Pakistani content creator known as “Northern Vibes,” who has over 146,000 followers on Instagram.
Following the viral spread of the post, the creator shared a screenshot of the BJP’s tweet on an Instagram story, expressing shock and writing, “When did the Baltistan highway become a part of India?
These are my videos, used without permission,” while accusing the party of unauthorized use.
Amid intense criticism online, the BJP deleted the video from its official account without issuing any official explanation or statement regarding the incident.
