ISLAMABAD : The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has formally invited Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to forge an alliance, with party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari making a direct overture that includes cooperation in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, sources revealed.
According to insider sources, Bilawal extended the offer during a one-on-one meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, where the two leaders discussed a range of political issues. The JUI-F chief has requested time to consult on the proposal.
The move signals a significant political realignment, with sources indicating that the PPP is seeking to broaden its coalition. Beyond cooperation in GB and Kashmir, the offer is seen as part of a larger effort to consolidate opposition ranks.
Following Bilawal’s meeting, political activity has intensified on the Sindh front. A delegation from the Sindh opposition is expected to meet Maulana Fazlur Rehman soon. Additionally, Pir Pagara’s son, Rashid Shah, has contacted the JUI-F chief, and a meeting between Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Pir Rashid Shah is scheduled for tonight.
Sources added that a high-level delegation from the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) will accompany Sahibzada Pir Pagara, with GDA Secretary General Dr. Safdar Abbasi, Moazzam Abbasi, and Muhammad Khan Junejo set to be part of the delegation. Pir Pagara’s special message will also be delivered to Maulana Fazlur Rehman during the engagement.
The developments suggest growing momentum behind efforts to unite opposition parties, with Maulana Fazlur Rehman emerging as a key figure in ongoing consultations.
