BHC seeks report on power load shedding and overbilling across Balochistan

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court has ordered authorities to submit a detailed report on prolonged hours electricity load shedding, over billing and fuel price adjustments across Balochistan.

According to details, the two-member bench, comprising Justice Shaukat Ali Rakhshani and Justice Muhammad Ayub Tareen, heard a petition filed Syed Nazir Agha Advocate. During the hearing of a constitutional petition, the two-member bench of BHC asked for data on electricity provision and load shedding in provincial capital and other districts of the province.

At the start of the hearing, Additional Attorney General Muhammad Farid Dogar submitted responses on behalf of the Energy and Power Department and other parties.

Petitioner Syed Nazir Agha Advocate told the court that many remote areas of Balochistan still face unannounced and extended power outages, with some districts experiencing blackouts for several days. He added that shifting thousands of tube wells to solar power has saved around 600 megawatts, which could significantly reduce load shedding if supplied to households.
