QUETTA: Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Rozi Khan on Monday took notice of the brutal killing of a couple in Degari of Balochistan, after a disturbing video went viral on social media showing a man and a woman being shot and killed in the name of so-called honour.
The chief justice summoned the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and the Inspector General of Police to appear on July 22 and provide an explanation.
A disturbing video, widely circulated on social media, shows a group of men escorting a man and a woman into a desert area of Balochistan and shooting them dead. The footage triggered national outrage, with political leaders and human rights activists strongly condemning the act as an ‘honour’ killing.
Following the viral video, a judicial magistrate in Quetta ordered the exhumation of the couple’s bodies. The magistrate supervised the process to ensure it complied with court orders.
Police registered an FIR at Hanna Orak Police Station and arrested at least 20 suspects involved in the case.
Earlier today, Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against over 20 individuals after a disturbing video went viral on social media showing a man and a woman being shot and killed in the name of so-called honour.
The couple had married against their family’s wishes.
The gruesome incident occurred in the Sangdi-Degari Margat area near Quetta, and the video has since sparked widespread outrage and fear among the public.
The case has been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Hana Orak Police Station in response to the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Naveed Akhtar after a viral video showed the cold-blooded murder of a woman, Bano Bibi, and a man, Ehsanullah.
According to the police, the video showed both victims being taken to a remote location where they were shot dead. Preliminary investigations revealed the incident occurred three days before Eid-ul-Adha.
The SHO, along with police personnel, visited the crime scene and gathered information. Witnesses confirmed that before the execution, the victims were taken to tribal elder Sardar Sherbaz Khan, who allegedly held a Jirga (tribal court) and declared both guilty of ‘Karo Kari’ (a tribal term for illicit relations). Following the so-called verdict, the couple was taken by vehicle to Sangdi-Degari Margat and executed.
The accused reportedly filmed the killing and later circulated the video on social media, sparking panic and condemnation across the province.
