DHAKA: Following its decision not to send a team to India for the T20 World Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has delivered another major move by banning the broadcast of the IPL in Bangladesh.
The BCB had requested the Ministry of Broadcasting to prevent IPL telecasts, and the ministry has now officially imposed the ban.
Earlier, the BCB announced that it would not send its team to India for the T20 World Cup.
This decision came after India removed Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL.
The BCB stated that the move was taken to ensure the safety and security of Bangladeshi players, citing threats from leaders of India’s ruling party, BJP, who had labeled IPL team owner Shah Rukh Khan a “traitor” and warned that Bangladeshi players should not be allowed to participate.
Tensions between the two countries escalated after unknown assailants killed Osman bin Hadi, a key student leader involved in opposing the government of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Following this incident, anti-India protests intensified across Bangladesh, with demonstrators demanding the extradition of the killers and clashes reportedly resulting in casualties among Hindu citizens.
