QUETTA : The Balochistan government has assured the province’s universities that it is making their financial challenges a top priority and is working on a sustainable strategy to resolve long-standing issues.
The assurance came during a meeting of the Balochistan Universities Finance Commission, chaired by Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani and co-chaired by Education Minister Raheela Hameed Khan. The vice-chancellors of all provincial universities were in attendance.
Finance Minister Nosherwani stated that the government is well aware of the financial difficulties faced by higher education institutions. He reported that significant progress has already been made on salary issues and that efforts are ongoing to address pensions and other operational expenses. The vice-chancellors unanimously agreed to support a new policy framework for covering these costs.

In a separate meeting, the newly formed Social and Political Committee, also chaired by Minister Nosherwani, held its first review. The committee, which includes senior officials, discussed the implementation of the National Action Plan. Key topics included enhancing the security architecture and combating the spread of divisive content on social media. Participants emphasized that the committee is a crucial step toward ensuring sustainable peace and social harmony in Balochistan. It was decided that the committee will meet monthly to ensure the effective implementation of its measures.
