CM advisor opens Balochistan’s first anti-rape crisis cell in Quetta

QUETTA: Advisor to the Chief Minister for Women Development, Dr. Rubaba Khan Buledi, on Tuesday inaugurated Balochistan’s first Anti-Rape Crisis Cell at Civil Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta and Bolan Medical Complex Hospital.

The Women Development Department established these centers with support from UN Women.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rubaba Khan Buledi described the establishment of the Anti-Rape Crisis Cells as a revolutionary step toward protecting women and children in the province. She said the centers, designed on modern lines, would provide immediate and comprehensive assistance to victims.

Dr. Rubaba explained that the initiative aligns with the Women Development Department’s vision and the directives of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

She said it aims to eliminate gender-based violence and ensure victims have prompt access to justice.

She highlighted that these cells mark the first integrated system in Balochistan’s history, offering medical aid, psychological counseling, legal assistance, and police support under one roof.

“This step will ensure timely help for victims and make the legal process faster and more effective,” she said, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to taking practical measures for women’s empowerment and protection.

Dr. Rubaba expressed special gratitude to UN Women for providing technical and administrative support in establishing the centers. She announced plans to open similar centers in other districts of Balochistan to guarantee timely assistance and justice for women and children across the province.

She reiterated the government’s dedication to addressing women’s issues, safeguarding their dignity, and promoting gender equality at all levels.

Representatives from the Health Department, civil society, and the United Nations also attended the inaugural ceremony and hailed the initiative as a milestone in advancing women’s protection in Balochistan.
