QUETTA: In a significant move to bolster environmental initiatives, Secretary of Forest and Wildlife Abdul Fattah Bhanger conducted a detailed review of the watershed management and afforestation activities under the Balochistan Water Resources Development Sector Project (BWRDSP). The official visit to the Water Resources Building in Quetta underscored the government’s focus on integrated resource management.

Upon his arrival, Secretary Bhanger was received by Project Director Engineer Sufiyan Durrani and his team, who provided a comprehensive briefing on the project’s advancements. The Secretary, accompanied by Forest Department officers, then embarked on an inspection tour of the facility. He examined the Balochistan Water Resources Information System (BWRIS) data center, the conference hall, and the developed green belts surrounding the building.

Impressed by the high standards of construction and the project’s alignment with environmental goals, Secretary Bhanger praised the team’s efforts. He described the facility as a “model of sustainable development in the province,” highlighting its aesthetic appeal and environmental harmony.

Presiding over a subsequent review meeting, the Secretary delved into the specifics of ongoing watershed management and afforestation works, particularly at the Siri Toi Dam in Zhob. Officials from the Forest Department presented key recommendations to enhance ecosystem conservation, restore biodiversity, and foster greater community involvement in environmental protection drives.

Reaffirming his department’s commitment, Secretary Bhanger stressed that the sustainable use of natural resources and efficient water resource management are paramount. He emphasized that close inter-departmental coordination is the cornerstone for achieving climate resilience and successful environmental restoration across Balochistan. Project Director Durrani expressed his gratitude for the Secretary’s visit and visionary leadership, acknowledging the vital support for institutional collaboration. The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to undertake future joint actions to improve project outcomes.

Meanwhile  the Government of Balochistan has initiated a formal process to integrate Climate Budget Tagging (CBT) and Gender Budget Tagging (GBT) into its financial systems.
