QUETTA: The Balochistan Fisheries Department has launched a crackdown on illegal trawling to protect marine life and secure the livelihoods of coastal communities.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti pushed the initiative as part of his vision for sustainable development and the welfare of fishermen.
Director General Fisheries Atiqullah Khan reaffirmed the commitment during a review visit to Gwadar’s coastal areas. He inspected the situation with Assistant Director Shah Fahad Anwar, Marine Biologist Nematullah Zaheer, Inspector Abdul Basit, and Skipper Muhammad Yasin Khan. The team examined the scale of illegal trawling and listened to fishermen’s concerns.
The department pledged to curb unauthorized fishing, safeguard fishermen’s rights, and preserve marine biodiversity for long-term industry growth.

Parliamentary Secretary Haji Barkat Rind and Secretary Fisheries Tariq Qamar Baloch directed the campaign, stressing the need to protect both the ecosystem and the economic interests of coastal populations.
