Balochistan starts deportation of Afghans, bans sheltering illegal immigrants

QUETTA: The latest phase of deporting Afghan refugees began today (Friday), following the expiration of a government deadline for Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders to leave the country voluntarily.

The Balochistan government released a video message on its official X account, confirming that the deadline for both Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) and Proof of Registration (PoR) card holders has expired.

The federal government had set June 30 as the final deadline for ACC and PoR card holders to return to Afghanistan, refusing to extend it despite calls from the international community. The Balochistan government, however, delayed action until further instructions were received from the federal authorities.

In July 2024, Pakistan extended the stay of 1.45 million legally registered Afghan refugees holding PoR and ACC cards until June 30, 2025.

The Balochistan Home and Tribal Affairs Department stated that transit camps have been established. Afghan nationals will be initially shifted to these camps before being deported through the Chaman border, after completing necessary legal proceedings.

The Balochistan government has also warned that action will be taken against individuals who provide shelter, residence, or employment to illegal foreign nationals.

The “One Document Regime” policy is already in effect at all border transit points.
