Balochistan shuts Abdoi Crossing, plans new gate at Kapkapar

KECH: The district administration in Kech has closed the Abdoi border crossing with Iran citing security concerns and are preparing to open a new crossing point in Kapkapar, Dasht, officials said on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kech, Basheer Ahmed Badini, announced the decision during a press briefing on Tuesday. He said that practical steps were already underway to establish the new border crossing as a replacement for Abdoi.

“A formal communication has been sent to the Iranian authorities, and a bilateral meeting is expected soon,” the DC said. “Once the meeting takes place, arrangements for the inauguration of the Kapkapar crossing will be finalized within a week.”

DC Badini expressed hope that residents of Dasht would continue to cooperate with the district administration and security forces to ensure that border operations remain organized, transparent, and beneficial for local communities.

He urged the public to avoid unnecessary speculation and political commentary regarding border management issues. “The state is committed to providing better employment opportunities for its citizens,” he said. “The establishment of the Kapkapar crossing is an important step in that direction and will create new livelihood opportunities for the local population.”

Later, the Deputy Commissioner also announced that the Balochistan government had imposed a ban on rallies and processions without official authorization.

He said that any political party or organization wishing to hold a protest, march, or public gathering must first obtain prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

“The district administration will review each application carefully before deciding which group may hold an event, where, and under what conditions,” DC Badini explained.

He appealed to all political groups to refrain from organizing any gathering or sit-in without an official No Objection Certificate (NOC) or authorization letter, and instead submit formal requests for approval through proper channels.
