Balochistan seeks priority in upcoming NFC Award, says governor

Balochistan NFC Mandokhail

QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Jafar Khan Mandokhel has emphasized the urgent need to address the province’s unique challenges in the upcoming National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. He stated that the current formula must be revised to better support Balochistan, which, despite being Pakistan’s largest province covering 43% of the country’s area, faces significant financial constraints.

Governor Mandokhel highlighted that a major portion of the province’s NFC funds is currently spent on law and order and compensating martyrs, leaving less for development. He called for the new NFC formula to specifically include factors like Balochistan’s vast territory, the creation of a poverty reduction fund, and the development of a strategy for its mineral sector, fisheries (blue economy), and date exports.

He praised the efforts of Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Noshirwani and his team. The Governor also stressed that seeking opinions from relevant experts will be crucial for crafting a strategy that ensures Balochistan’s development and prosperity, strengthening both the provincial and national economy.
