Balochistan rolls out smart security system

QUETTA: In a landmark move aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, the Government of Balochistan has announced the launch of Safe City projects across key urban centres of the province. As part of the provincial budget for the current fiscal year, an initial allocation of Rs10 billion has been made to kickstart these transformative initiatives.

The Safe City projects will introduce cutting-edge surveillance systems, smart camera networks, command and control centres, and other advanced security technologies in major cities. These measures are designed not only to curb crime more effectively but also to ensure swift emergency response, efficient traffic management, and an overall sense of safety and peace for urban residents.

According to officials, the first phase of the initiative will begin in high-priority areas like Quetta and Gwadar—cities facing both significant security challenges and rapid development needs. Based on the outcomes of the initial rollout, the project will be expanded in phases to other urban areas across the province.

The initiative also promises to equip law enforcement agencies with modern digital tools and intelligence-based operational capabilities. Beyond enhancing security, the Safe City projects are expected to stimulate positive impacts on the economy, investment climate, and tourism in Balochistan. As officials note, “A secure city is the foundation of sustainable development.”

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has hailed the project as a key component of the provincial government’s broader vision for modernization and citizen welfare. “The Safe City initiative is a practical step towards aligning Balochistan with the demands of the modern era while ensuring the safety of our people,” he said.

Bugti emphasized that the government is confronting terrorism, crime, and unrest with firm political will and the strategic use of technology. “We are determined to uphold the writ of the state and ensure that our citizens can live without fear.
