Balochistan to Roll Out High-Speed Internet in Schools, Govt Offices

Panjgur faces PTCL internet suspension for a week, mobile data unavailable for four years

ْQUETTA: The Balochistan government has launched a major initiative to bolster its digital infrastructure by deciding to provide high-speed internet through fiber optic cables and a Digital Radio System (DRS) across all districts of the province.

The project, announced by Provincial Secretary for Science and IT Muhammad Ayaz Mandokhel, will focus on connecting high schools, colleges, and other important government offices. Mandokhel stated that the primary aim is to strengthen digital infrastructure in these key institutions and extend the benefits of modern technology to the public through reliable, high-speed internet access.

To ensure the project’s transparent and effective implementation, a comprehensive data collection drive has been initiated. Detailed information, including GPS coordinates, of all targeted high schools, colleges, and government offices in every district is being gathered. The Science and IT department has formally requested all Deputy Commissioners to provide this crucial data, which will facilitate the seamless rollout of the fiber optic connectivity.

Mandokhel emphasized the transformative potential of this initiative. He explained that it is designed to serve a dual purpose. Firstly, it will significantly improve the quality of education in Balochistan by providing students and educators with access to vast online resources and digital learning tools. Secondly, it will enhance the capacity and efficiency of digital services offered by government offices, leading to better public service delivery.

This project is framed as a critical step towards realizing the broader vision of a digital Pakistan, ensuring that Balochistan actively participates in and benefits from the nation’s technological advancement.

Meanwhile education authorities in two provinces have announced significant schedule changes, with Balochistan implementing a lengthy winter closure for its cold regions and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shifting school timings in Charsadda district following a fatal fog-related accident.

In Balochistan, the government has issued a new schedule for winter vacations, targeting the province’s colder areas. According to the directive, all government schools in these specified regions will observe an extended closure period.
