CM Bugti protests lack of Balochistan representation on PTV Board

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has expressed strong reservations over the federal government’s new notification for the Pakistan Television (PTV) Board, criticising the absence of representation from Balochistan.

Sharing the notification on the social media platform X, the chief minister captioned it with a question, “Are we Balochistanis the lesser sons of God? ” He said the new PTV Board included no member from Balochistan despite it being the country’s largest province with immense talent. “Representation is not a favour, it is our right,” he said in his post.

The Ministry of Information recently issued a notification appointing five new PTV Board directors for three years. The appointments include Yasir Qureshi and Professor Dr. Asghar Nadeem from Lahore, Tasneem Rehman from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ishtiaq Baig from Sindh, and Khalid Mahmood Khan from Islamabad.

Responding to Bugti’s criticism, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar clarified that the ministry had shortlisted names from Balochistan, but their documents were incomplete, preventing the issuance of their notifications at this stage.

Tarar stressed that Balochistan’s representation would be ensured as a constitutional right, not as a concession. He added that the PTV Board was not yet final and that the ministry was expediting the process to include members from Balochistan soon.
