Balochistan railway stations undergo upgradation

QUETTA: There is a good news for the people of Balochistan that the upgradation of Quetta and several other railway stations has officially begun.

According to the  Balochistan News Updates ,With the efforts of the Federal Minister for Railways and the support of the provincial government, a budget of 10 billion rupees has been allocated for this extensive project.

As part of the plan, the Sariab, Sheikh Manda, Beleli, and Chalak railway stations will be renovated and repaired, while two brand-new stations will also be constructed.

The project aims to provide passengers with modern amenities and a more comfortable travel experience, ensuring improved and efficient railway services across the province.

Balochistan’s railway network is a vital link between Pakistan’s southern ports, inland provinces, and neighboring Iran.

Major stations such as Quetta, Sibi, Chaman, Dalbandin, and Taftan serve both passenger and freight traffic, connecting the province to key trade corridors like the Quetta–Taftan line leading to Iran and the Quetta–Chaman line near the Afghan border.

These routes are important for regional commerce, the movement of goods, and cross-border travel.

Many of Balochistan’s stations, however, have faced decades of underinvestment, resulting in aging infrastructure, outdated signaling systems, and limited passenger facilities.

Recent federal and provincial initiatives—such as the current multi-billion-rupee upgrades in Quetta, Sariab, Sheikh Manda, Beleli, and Chalak—aim to modernize platforms, waiting areas, and safety measures.
