QUETTA: The Provincial Transport Authority of Balochistan has directed all transporters operating intra-provincial and inter-provincial services to maintain a compulsory record of passengers’ mobile phone numbers and national identity card details, warning that non-compliance will result in strict legal action including suspension of route permits and closure of companies.
In an official circular issued Thursday, the authority cited instructions from the Ministry of Interior and the Transport Department of the Government of Balochistan. The directive applies to all bulk service vehicles, including minibuses, buses, coasters, and coaches plying on routes within and outside the province.
Transporters have been instructed to ensure that the mobile phone numbers and Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) numbers of all passengers are duly entered into their records. The Home Department and Transport Department reserve the right to call for and inspect this record at any time.
Additionally, the circular explicitly bars transporters from issuing tickets to any passenger who fails to produce a valid identity card or passport. Strict compliance has been ordered with immediate effect.
“Otherwise, strict legal action will be taken under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965 and the Motor Vehicle Rules 1969, including suspension of the route permit and closure of the company,” the notification read. “No excuse will be acceptable in this regard.”
The move is aimed at enhancing documentation and monitoring of passenger movement across the province. Transporters have been urged to cooperate with the authorities to avoid penal action.
